Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek Beams Up Revenant Writer

Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek film may have found its writer. Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures has hired Mark L. Smith to pen the screenplay for the R rated Star Trek adventure. It's a fitting hiring since Smith also wrote The Revenant, the R rated film that finally got Leonardo Dicaprio an Oscar. Details on the plot have not been released but it should this installment in the Star Trek franchise interesting.

According to the report, Smith became a favorite for Paramount and J.J. Abrams, who will be the Star Trek film's producer. It was his scripting of the WWII film Overlord that got attention, hence his hiring for Tarantino's sci-fi romp. Tarantino is known for his quippy and lengthy dialogue, often done to add some characterization, so expectations for Smith's script might be high.

How the fan base reacts to this will be interesting since the acclaimed director's work doesn't exactly have much in common with the sci-fi franchise. Then again, the director is a fan of the franchise, so he could do right by the fans.
