PSX 2015: Kitase Says Final Fantasy VII Remake Will Not Be Completely Action-Based

One of the most common fan complaints about the Final Fantasy VII Remake trailer I've heard is the dramatic change of combat: It's no longer turn-based like the original classic, but let's face it: The days of turn-based are gone, but not completely. Speaking as part of a new video on Playstation's official YouTube channel, producer Yoshinori Kitase explained that while more active battle systems are the trend right now, Square Enix won't forget its franchise's roots.

"What makes Final Fantasy and RPGs different from other games is that the players have the ability to choose weapons, capabilities, and magic to be strategic minded, so while the new game has more real-time elements, it will also maintain that strategy building element, balancing these two factors perfectly to enhance the gaming experience," he said. Watch the full interview below:

As we've seen in the trailer, it seems that there are still commands that you can select that would determine the actions of the characters. Perhaps the battle system will be more similar to XII or XIII, where it mixes both turn-based and action-based elements.

It was also announced that the remake will be released in multi-parts. You can read more details here.
