'Power Rangers' Reboot's Red Ranger Sword Revealed

The Red Ranger will be weilding a brand new sword to go with his new outfit in the upcoming Power Rangers reboot movie, ComicBookMovie reports. Fans are anticipating a first look at the new movie at New York Comic Con, but in the meantime, they have a first look at a brand new weapon. Here's what the sword looks like:

This new sword doesn't have much in common with the one seen in the original Power Rangers series. That sword was a very long broadsword-type deal, while this sword is smaller and more compact. Notably, the sword appears to be segmented, which means its either collapsible or it transforms into another type of weapon.

The new versions of signature weapons for the rest of the cast have yet to be released. Power Rangers boasts five main characters, all of whom are teenagers recruited to fight an alien threat. They are able to transform into costumed heroes.

The first installment of the Power Rangers franchise debuted in 1993. The action footage of the heroes in costume was lifted and redubbed from the Japanese series Super Sentai and it was interspersed with original American footage. The upcoming Power Rangers film in 2017 will reboot the franchise and will presumably not be lifting footage from any Japanese sources.

The new sword looks pretty cool. What do you think of it? How do you think the rest of the weapons will be updated?
