Pokemon Uranium is Taken Down Days After Launch and 1.5M Downloads

When a game reaches 1.5 million downloads, you know it attracts quite the big attention. Especially when it's a fan-made game.

However, the issue with fan-made games is the danger of being too close to original title. Not to mention the original creators' issue with having a fan-made game created as an homage.

This is the case with fan-made game Pokemon Uranium. Now we see the first potential issue that Nintendo may have had with the game—it makes use of the title of the franchise at the get-go.

According to Kotaku, the developers have received multiple takedown notices from the lawyers of Nintendo of America. There have been no personal contacts made to the developers, but it seems that they did not plan on pushing the project any further than where it is now. The official site of the game has already been shut down, and they are no longer providing official links of the game.

For anyone who may have downloaded the game, the developers have also cited that they have no connections with anyone else who will be distributing the content, so that should serve as a warning.

"We have no connection to fans who reupload the game files to their own hosts, and we cannot verify that those download links are all legitimate. We advise you to be extremely cautious about downloading the game from unofficial sources
"We are blown away by the response this game has received, and we thank you all so much for your outstanding support."

The look of the game mimics previous Pokemon titles with a few tweaks and twists here and there. Perhaps the biggest addition is the introduction of Nuclear Pokemon, which is one of the classes of ‘mons that you can actually talk to in the game.

It's not surprising to have this kind of feature, since the game has been in the making for nine years. Sadly, those nine years weren't even able to enjoy ample time online, though surely, there may be copies of the game surfacing here and there through other means.
