Pokemon Go Update & Water Festival Event May Get You Playing Again

Niantic Labs is far from over with getting players back into the allure of stepping outside and playing Pokemon Go.

A new event is happening now, and it coincides with a Water Festival event. Like the theme suggests, it will make it easier for players to get more of the water-dwelling ‘mons.

"Get ready to make some waves in Pokemon Go! There's a global Water Festival in progress, and Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile, and friends are looking forward to celebrating with you… Additionally when you're out exploring areas where Water-type Pokemon more commonly appear, you'll have a great chance to encounter several of the Water-type Pokemon originally discovered in the Johto region, and maybe… you might even encounter Lapras."

If that's not enough, you should also note that the evolutions of the aforementioned ‘mons will be have increased spawns—so hello, Gyarados, Blastoise, and Croconaw!

There will also an additional avatar item, the Magikarp Hat, just so you can enjoy the festival more, I guess. As usual, this is a time-sensitive celebration, so get your dose of these water ‘mons until March 29, 1pm PDT.

The Water Festival announcement comes hot on the heels of an update. It's just a minor one, but the more notable addition is that the 7-day First PokeStop of the Day streak will now give players a random Evolution item. At the very least, this may motivate you to open the app when you pass by the nearest PokeStop.
