Pokemon Go Latest Update Brings New Feature for Strategic Players

Niantic Labs may be starting the rollout of new features for Pokemon Go.

The developer updated the official Pokemon Go blog confirming that Update 1.50 for iOS and 0.35.0 for Android has already rolled out for some players. Similar to the new Nearby functioning, it appears that the new feature is not yet available for everyone.

Implemented Pokémon Appraisal: Trainers will now be able to learn about a Pokémon's attack and defense capabilities from their Team Leader (Candela, Blanche or Spark) to determine which of their Pokémon have the most potential for battle.

The new feature will ideally be the best friend of more hardcore Pokemon Go players, as it now addresses previous issues that would have required the use of third-party apps. IVs or individual values, are useful for distinguishing whether or not a Pokemon's stats are better or lower than another Pokemon of the same species.

Any player who has had to battle against other Pokemon in Gyms may find this useful, as it can differentiate between a loss and a close win. So anyone who wants to get a little more room for strategy will definitely benefit on this one.

Over at Reddit, some players are already exploring the different Team Leader comments depending on the range of its IV. So far, there are differing texts even when a Pokemon hits a certain percentage range.

For instance, Mystic Team members have reported seeing a third-tier level Pokemon to have varying texts like "I'm impressed" and "Caught my attention." Since players are yet to get the update, this may still develop once more details are discovered.

Apart from the new appraisal feature, the new update will have some unspecified minor bot fixes. Niantic Labs did hint that the team is still working on "new and exciting features" that will come to the game later on.

I'm currently one of those who are still waiting for the new app update. I'm not yet in that hardcore level—it's hard to be, when your Pokedex isn't even half-full and you keep seeing Rattata and Pidgeys everywhere—but given this new strategic approach, I guess it's time to get a little more serious.

Pokemon Go is currently rolling out or Android and iOS app stores.
