Pokemon Go Dev Shows Off Early Prototypes at GDC

It's no secret that Niantic Labs has experienced a lot of hiccups during the starting phase of Pokemon Go. But the good thing about this is that the developer has taken these missteps as a way to improve the game.

At the Game Developers Conference, Niantic Labs took to the stage to show some of the prototype that they had during the creation of the game. According to Ars Technica, Niantic's Dennis Hwang had recalled a few things that they had wanted to do when developing the game.

Some of these included applying Ingress's successes for Pokemon Go via the use of a hero for every player and a game that appeals to different ages and types of players. He also touched on the idea of how they aimed to make sure that playing in the real world and playing on the screen doesn't make the Pokemon Go trainer feel disconnected.

So much planning and technology had gone into the creation of the game. From the use of photospheres that appeared wherever the player was, to bringing real-world mapping into a Pokemon world, the creators have tried to lessen the feeling of what they termed as "cognitive dissonance" in what the game has and what the real world actually offers.

In any case, from the explosion of the users and players, it's safe to say that a lot of the players have overcome that kind of hurdle. Still, that hasn't stopped Niantic from exploring more features for the game.

"There were so many ideas we wanted to build that we didn't have time for. the version of Go that ended up going to the public contained 10 percent of the ideas Niantic development members had."

Pokemon Go is currently enjoying its Pikachu event for Pokemon Day. It's also a great time to dive back into the game following the launch of 80 new Gen 2 monsters.
