Niantic Labs, the developer behind the hit augmented reality game Pokemon Go, is working on another AR game based on another huge entertainment franchise.
Niantic's next AR game is called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, TechCrunch reports. The game is being co-developed by Warner Bros. Interactive and a new sub-brand called Portkey Games.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is set to launch in 2018, and it's expected to be more like Ingress than Pokemon Go in terms of gameplay. Ingress is more centered on location defense and exploration than capturing Pokemon, so this would make sense for an epic fantasy franchise that pits good against evil.
There have been rumors of a Niantic-made Harry Potter AR game for over year, but they were debunked as "fake news" published on a satire website.
Although TechCrunch is claiming the news to be real, neither Niantic Labs or Warner Bros. Interactive released an official statement about the game.
