Since the mid-2010s, more and more games originally developed exclusively for PlayStation have come to PC, like Quantic Dream's catalog, the Nioh series, or Death's Stranding. But recently, Sony has started to bring their first-party exclusives to PC, like Horizon Zero Dawn. A few more PlayStation first-party games have come to PC in 2021, and even more are on the horizon in 2022. In this article, we'll tell you what's out and what's coming up in the strange world of PlayStation games on PC.
PlayStation Exclusives That Came to PC in 2021
The biggest PlayStation exclusive release on PC in 2021 was the open-world action-adventure game Days Gone developed by Sony's Bend Studio.
While it may be a little ironic to release a game in 2021 set two years after a devastating global pandemic, the game performed reasonably well on PlayStation 4, and as a new IP, many fewer gamers have had a chance to pick it up and play it. So, a PC release makes sense.
Though, unfortunately, it has been confirmed that a sequel to Days Gone is not being developed, largely due to the fact that in terms of sales Days Gone didn't perform well enough for Sony to invest the massive amounts of manpower and resources into producing another huge AAA singleplayer game.
Days Gone, as a PC game, comes with a good amount of content too, perhaps thanks to the fact that Bend Studio themselves ported the game to PC rather than outsource the development to another studio like is being done with the upcoming Uncharted PC release.
On PC, Days Gone has obvious features like unlocked framerates, ultra-wide support, increased detail, a field of view slider, and better draw distances, but it also comes with New Game Plus, Survival Mode, Challenge Mode, and Bike skins.
The other major PlayStation game to come to PC in 2021 is Nioh 2, following Nioh 2's original release exclusively on PlayStation in 2020. This PC port is pretty barebones, though it does let you play at 120 FPS, have better graphics, and play on different aspect ratios, but there isn't much more to the PC release than that.
Though, Nioh did get a PS5 release alongside Nioh 2 this year, which remastered the game's graphics slightly, but most importantly gave players the option to play Nioh at 120 FPS for the first time. Unfortunately, this feature did not come to Nioh on PC.
And while Horizon Zero Dawn did not come to PC in 2021, its PC version did get DLSS support this year, which can offer a massive performance benefit to the already graphically demanding game, which is a nice new free update.
Lastly, the Final Fantasy VII Remake is also coming to PC in 2021, but it's not out just yet. It will release on December 16th, 2021 on the Epic Games Store for $70. This will be the Intergrade version of the game that came out on PS5 this year as well, which includes new content separate from the game's original release.
PlayStation Exclusives Coming to PC in 2022
Currently, two major PC releases are planned for 2022.
First up, we've got Uncharted's first PC appearance: Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, which includes both Uncharted 4 as well as Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which was the Uncharted spinoff without Nathan Darke that instead followed Chloe Frazier.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will be coming to PS5 and PC, but as of now, only the PS5 version has an official release date: January 28th, 2022. Sony has promised that more information about the PC version's final release date will be coming soon.
In the collection, a couple of new features are being added: Most importantly, you can play either Uncharted 4 or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in any of three graphics modes. You can play in native 4K at 30 FPS; lower your resolution (either dynamically or down to 1440p, which it is hasn't been officially confirmed yet) to play at 60 FPS; or you can opt to play at 120 FPS at 1080p.
On PS5, load times will also be near-instant, and you'll also get Spatial 3D audio alongside DualSense haptic feedback support. The game will cost $49.99, and it will be available both physically and digitally. Plus, if you purchased Uncharted 4 or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, you'll be able to pay $10 to get a digital copy of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
For the PC release, you'll see all the same kinds of features, like better graphics, unlocked framerates, and faster loading, and the game will be available on either Steam or the Epic game Store when it finally does release.
The other major PlayStation exclusive coming to PC in 2022 is none other than God of War, following up the game's PS5 updates. Like the other PC ports, God of War on PC will have better graphics, higher framerates, support for ultra-wide monitors, DLSS support, NVIDIA Reflex support, and AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution support.
However, there isn't any other meaningful new content getting added to the game outside of these more technical features. It will be, for most intents and purposes, the same God of War you know and love just on PC with the familiar trimmings of modern PC releases.
