PlayStation 5 will NOT Allow In-Store Purchases on Launch Day

It's finally November, and a lot of people are ready to enter the next gen of console gaming with the PlayStation 5. Just in, the official PlayStation Blog has announced that launch day will not have any walk-in sales of the PS5.

Here's the official announcement:

No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don't plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.

This was apparently done to keep the staff safe amidst the resurgence of COVID-19. Anyone who had pre-ordered the console shouldn't worry though, as they will still be able to pick up the console at their local retailer on designated appointment times.

While this should come out as a bummer for anyone planning to buy the console in person, it's probably the best measure right now, seeing as the US has just gotten a new spike of COVID-19 cases. The good thing is, Sony had decided to make the announcement a week before, so anyone planning on getting the console next week can still scramble to update their plans. Hopefully local stores still have enough room for pre-orders as it will be the only way to get the PlayStation 5 on launch day.

For now, the PlayStation 5 is set to launch on Nov. 12.
