Outraged Russian Fans Create Petition to Change One Thing About Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War

One of the many fantastic things about Captain America: Civil War is the introduction of Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther and Tom Holland's Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Perhaps it's even more so for the web-slinger, since it's the first time the hero became part of the MCU after being owned solely by Sony for such a long time. Marvel even pumped up the anticipation for the character by not including him in any promo materials, well, at least not until the final trailer.

That said, many fans are celebrating Captain America: Civil War, which is now known as one of the best movies in the MCU so far. However, the same cannot be said for Russian fans, who are reportedly outraged by Spider-Man's outing in their cinemas.

Apparently, they are disappointed with Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War because the voice who dubbed Spider-Man in Russian reportedly sounded very, very young, thus destroying the supposedly cool demeanor of the character. In fact, the Russian dubbed Spider-Man sounded as young as 10 years old, as opposed to Tom Holland's wise-cracking teenage Peter.

You can understand then why Russian fans would be outraged.

Because of this, Civil War fans have started a petition on change.org urging Marvel to change Spider-Man's voice actor for the rest of the character's appearances in MCU films. At the time of this writing, there are currently 1,255 supporters out of a 1,500-signature goal.

As per Google Translate, the petition said:

May 5 - the long-awaited day, which we Spidey fans, eagerly awaited, because it is a new version in the cinema! And ... what is this a real slap in the face in the form of dubbing it ?! Perhaps there is no censorship in the Russian language words in order to describe the outrage of such a "voice".
We demand from "Nevafilm", which was engaged in dubbing the film, actor Vladimir Kanuhina replace the other, because they heard a voice in the new creations of Marvel we did not want!
We have no complaints about the actor dubbing, because it made directed to the voice acting, it was an incredible mistake.Again: to "return home" we want the actor has been replaced!

I can understand the plight of these Russian fans. Spider-Man's appearance is one of the most anticipated in the MCU, and for it to have been spoiled by a young voice is something that would drive any fan nuts.

That said, while I'm thankful the experience wasn't ruined on my end, I'm pretty curious what that Russian Spider-Man voice sounded like.

Still, it would be hard to imagine, especially since Tom Holland's performance is now commonly referred to as the best in the movie. Even Chris Evans, directors Joe and Anthony Russo thinks Holland is "f—ing Invaluable" to Captain America: Civil War. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn echoes their opinions as well, saying that Holland is the best Spider-Man on the big screen. In addition, former Spider-Man actor Tobey Maguire also praised Holland's portrayal of the character.

In any case, Captain America: Civil War is still in theaters, so you can still hear the original Spidey on the big screen.
