One Piece Artist Is Ready To End The Series

Few mangas or animes are as intimidating as Eiichiro Oda's One Piece. The tale that focuses on Monkey D. Luffy's quest to become the King of the Pirates is a massive one, with numerous characters, plot twists and unexpected team-ups. It feels like the series is never going to end at this point, but that might not be the case.

Hiroyuki Nakano, the editor-in-chief of Shonen Jump, told Budakgetah (via Younkou Productions) that Oda was looking forward to eventually ending the long-running series. While the series won't be ending anytime soon, it's good to know that Oda is ready to end Luffy's journey and possibly sail to new ventures, much like his manga. To be fair, most fans would argue that the manga feels far from stale, thanks to the series' ever-changing status quo.

When Nakano was asked about how long Oda's series would last, he said the following:

"[I] don't know yet because One Piece is a very popular manga in Japan and its popularity keeps on increasing and the storyline accidentally gets longer as it goes on. Even Oda-sensei tried to end the manga as early as possible because it has become too popular."

It's an interesting and somewhat honest answer from the Shonen Jump EIC. The fact that fans aren't tired of the series yet, shows the amount of quality it has. Compare this to something like Bleach, which ended abruptly after disappointing fans with it's later stories, and it's surprising to see the maga continue to this day. Even Naruto, which was at least consistent throughout its runtime, ended eventually, though it technically continues to this day with Boruto.

When will One Piece end? Even Eiichiro Oda doesn't know, since he previously admitted new ideas keep popping up and get expanded upon. Here is hoping that the eventual ending is smooth sailing, much like most of the series' lifespan.
