Obi-Wan Standalone Movie Reportedly Filming In 2019

There might have been rumors saying that Lucasfilm was planning to put its future Star Wars spinoffs after Solo: A Star Wars Story flopped at the box office, however, new reports say the studio may still be planning to work on Obi-Wan next year.

The Belfast Telegraphjust recently reported on the upcoming production of Game Of Thrones' prequel spinoff in Paint Hall Studio in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast, and in the article the publication also mentioned that Obi-Wan would also film in the city in 2019. Though there aren't too many details about the Star Wars standalone movie outside of its start of production, the publication says that Obi-Wan will begin filming in April next year.

Of course, if Lucasfilm plans to have another Star Wars movie out after its sequel trilogy ends with Star Wars: Episode IX, then the studio would most likely go with a 2020 release for its Obi-Wan spinoff. There's been a lot of excitement building up over the film – after all, Obi-Wan is one of the franchise's most-liked characters.

It'd also give Star Wars: The Last Jedi writer and director Rian Johnson some time to start working on his new trilogy, as well as time for Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to work on their own set of Star Wars movies.

Lucasfilm's latest release, Solo: A Star Wars Story, is currently screening in cinemas.
