Noah Hawley Wants His Doctor Doom Film To Be A Political Thriller

As fans wait for the Disney/Fox merger, the latter is still able to make any X-Men or Fantastic Four-related film that the higher-ups desire. One film that has been optioned is Doctor Doom, which has fans excited and nervous at the same time. Excited, because Legion's Noah Hawley is working on the film and nervous because Fox has butchered the characters in three Fantastic Four films.

Thankfully, Hawley has discussed his vision for the villainous dictator and it actually sounds very promising.

During an interview with Observer, Hawley discussed his admiration of the character and what he wants to see in a Doctor Doom film. Talking about his complexities, Hawley said he would want to make Victor Von Doom's film a political thriller, similar to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

"It's something that [Captain America] Winter Soldier did really well, which was kind of make a Cold War thriller movie out of a superhero movie. This is different than that, but it does have this idea of, and I don't want to say too much about it, but it is a mixture of genres. The mandate is not to re-launch the Fantastic Four franchise as much as it is to take this fascinating and under-served character and really build a movie about him where we ask the question: Is he a hero? Is he a villain? What does he really want?"

Considering how each of the Fantastic Four films has butchered the character, taking this kind of approach is smart. Doom has always been Marvel's most interesting villain, even if his movie credibility has been torn to shreds. With Hawkey knocking Legion out of the park, we can only hope he does the same with Doctor Doom.

The film currently has no release date.
