Nintendo Officially Announces Pokemon Sun and Moon

Yesterday, we reported that Pokémon Sun and Moon trademarks were leaked in the European market. The trademark filings came just days after Nintendo announced that it will be broadcasting the new Pokemon Direct as part of the Japanese publisher's 20th anniversary.

Now, it's official. The Pokemon Company announced Pokemon Sun and Moon via Nintendo Direct live stream.

Japan is also celebrating what the Japanese call "Pokemon Day," the day of the actual release of Pokemon original games Red and Green.

It's worth noting that the original Red, Blue, and Yellow games are set to arrive on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual console in addition to Pokemon Sun and Moon. Also, the pocket monsters from the originals can now be traded to the new games.

Naturally, fans can't wait to see what new things the company has in store for their favorite characters now that the original 151 are available in the new games. There's a theory claiming that Pokemon could be tied to Nintendo's NX in the future.

While that remains a theory, fans are just thrilled about the new Pokemon games on 3DS.

Pokemon Sun and Moon will have a holiday release for Nintendo 3DS.
