The NES Classic Edition was a huge hit among fans of Nintendo's classic games like Super Mario Bros.,Metroid, Kirby's Adventure, and The Legend of Zelda. The loaded video game console sold over 1.5 million units, and had been consistently sold out since its November 2016 release.
A Nintendo representative recently talked to IGN about why the production for the mini console was never intended to continue for long; however, they added a few extra shipments to meet its high demand. Here's what Nintendo said about the final shipments:
"Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product."
Note that he said "this year" so they might relaunch the mini console next year, and if they do, I hope they'll pack in other classic Nintendo games. If you still want to buy a NES Classic, this could be your last month to purchase one.
