Back in November, Warner Bros. and MGM hired Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug to direct a reboot of Tomb Raider. Uthaug is known for directing the Norwegian disaster thriller The Wave.

During a recent interview with IGN, the director talked about his vision for the movie, and what will influence it.

The director confirmed that the new film will tell the origin story of Lara Croft and that it will be similar to the 2013 videogame reboot. He explained how he plans to present the character in the film:

"I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that's definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well. I think we'll want to make people relate to Lara as a character. I'm hoping to bring some of my Norwegian sensibilities to the franchise."

The director said that it was his dream to make an action-adventure film, and explained how Raiders of the Lost Ark influenced him to work on Tomb Raider.

"Raiders of the Lost Ark was one of my favorite films growing up, so it's definitely a dream to work in that kind of genre. I think we'll want to make it feel like a modern action movie and to make what's going on feel like it's going on for real."

The script is being written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Transformers 5).
