New Wave of Star Wars: The Force Awakens Toys is All About Rey

After facing backlack at Rey's absence in the Star Wars Monopoly set and other toy sets, Rey is finally getting the attention she deserves.

Entertainment Weekly revealed a batch of new products due to roll into stores this month, and while it's not all Rey-focused, she is heavily present, and a huge deal of that presence is being made by Hasbro in response to the recent social media "#WheresRey" campaign decrying the lack of Rey on toy shelves in the run up to the film. Rey would probably have been a major part of the post-release Force Awakens toys, held back to avoid accidentally revealing that she's set to become a Jedi at the end of the film. One of these items was even leaked before the film's release.

"This new wave of product has got key elements from the film. You see Rey with a saber, her blaster, and a number of other elements we wanted to hold back until the film had been released," says Paul Southern, head of Lucasfilm licensing. "The timing is good to try to address some of the social discussion that has been created through the ‘Where's Rey?' movement."

Half of the toys revealed by EW feature Rey. They include the Nerf blaster based on the pistol Han Solo gives Rey in the movie, a 3.75" figure of Rey in her "Resistance" outfit wielding the blue lightsaber formerly owned by Luke and Anakin Skywalker, and versions of her in the 20", 12", and cartoony "Galactic Heroes" figure lines.

Rey isn't the only star getting new figures—the wave of new toys also includes figures of Finn in his stormtrooper armor, two new LEGO sets based on the film's middle setpiece of the First Order's attack on Maz Kanata's castle, and the Black Series 6" Han Solo figure first revealed at Comic-Con last year.
