New Valerian and The City of A Thousand Planets Featurette Shows Its Wonderful Worlds

Luc Besson may be known for directing his 1997 sci-fi Fifth Element, but when his latest film comes out in theaters next month, he will be known for creating something more amazing. In the new featurette for Valerian and the Thousand Planets, Besson talked about how he was determined to make a big screen adaptation of the French graphic novel by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Méz, and how he essentially spent his whole life bringing it to life. Based on what we've seen, it looks like he has succeeded. The new clip also features new footage of space cops Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne), the incredible worlds they explore, and the species of aliens that populate them. Watch the featurette below:

In the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha—an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

The film also stars Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, Kris Wu, and Rutger Hauer.
