In a box office climate filled with sequels and reboots, Ryan Reynolds is teaming up with 20th Century Studios to give us a film with a more original premise, Free Guy. Just in, we have some new stills of the film, and it gives us a new look at Reynolds as well as his co-stars Jodie Comer, Taika Waititi, and Joe Keery.

Talking to Total Film, Reynolds explained how he wanted to make a movie that left the audience feeling a lot more positive. He explains:
"I shudder to think that I would be as big of a thunderc**t to use a colossal global pandemic as a sort of means to find a valuable foothold for my movie… But I did notice that well before any of this shit happened I was already looking for entertainment outside of the norm for me. I mean, the world feels very hostile, very cynical, and scary. So I found myself looking for entertainment that left me feeling better, left me walking out of a movie theatre where I'm walking on sunshine, instead of, you know, wondering how I might drink myself to sleep or something."
Besides starring as the foul-mouthed Deadpool, you do kind of notice that Reynolds has been making a lot of kid-friendly fares lately. He's provided the voice for Detective Pikachu, and now he's going to play an NPC who's out to save his game.
I'm not sure about Waititi's role yet, but I imagine he's the owner of the game who Reynolds is trying to reach out to in order to save it.
A bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.
Free Guy is set to hit theaters on Dec. 11.
