Netflix will make Bryan Fuller's new CBS Star Trek series available to 188 countries outside of the US and Canada, but Americans and Canadians are out of luck, a Netflix press release reveals. They will have to rely on CBS's exclusive streaming service, All Access. But international audiences will get the latest Star Trek streamed from Netflix only 24 hours after they premiere on All Access.

Americans and Canadians will at least have the solace of knowing that they along with the rest of the world will have access to all 727 episodes of previous Star Trek series on Netflix by the end of 2016. This includes Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise.

But as far as the new Star Trek goes,Canadians and Americans will be restricted to CBS All Acess, the channels digital streaming program. The premiere episode will air on the CBS cable channel, but it and subsequent episodes will be restricted to All Access after that. Fans will have to pay $5.99 a month for a subscription to the service. On the bright side, they will have access to all current and past CBS shows on demand as well as the ability to stream them on their local CBS station live.

Armando Nuñez, President of CBS Studios International, was very excited about the new Netflix deal. "The launch of the new ‘Star Trek' will truly be a global television event. Star Trek is already a worldwide phenomenon and this international partnership will provide fans around the world, who have been craving a new series for more than a decade, the opportunity to see every episode virtually at the same time as viewers in the U.S.," he said. "Thanks to our world-class partners at Netflix, the new ‘Star Trek' will definitely be ‘hailing on all frequencies' throughout the planet."

The new Star Trek will begin production in September and will premiere January 2017. It will have an entirely new cast of characters.

I'm happy international fans get Star Trek on Netflix, but I wish we didn't have to subscribe to CBS All Access to see it in America and Canada when it's likely most of us are already subscribed to Netflix. It's just an additional cost for us. What do you think of the news? Are you excited for the new Star Trek show?
