New Sonic the Hedgehog Project Announced for 2017


A new Sonic the Hedgehog project was announced at the Sonic 25th anniversary party event in Tokyo, Anime News Network reports. The producer of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, Takashi Iizuka, announced that the new project would launch in 2017.

Iizuka said further details about the project would be announced at the Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary Party in San Diego on June 22. The event will be livestreamed through Twitch.

The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise's first game was released by Sega on June 23, 1991. As such, Thursday was the franchise's 25th anniversary. Many speculated Sega would announce something new to commemorate this milestone and they were proven right.

In addition to this new project, a hybrid live-action/animated movie has been in the works for the blue hedgehog was confirmed to be in the works since February. Neal Moritz, the producer of the Fast and Furious franchise is behind the film and Evan Susser and Van Robichau are said to be writing the screenplay.

I hope the new Sonic the Hedgehog project is one worthy of the 25th anniversary. It's amazing that Sonic games have been around that long. Are you excited for the new Sonic project?
