New Rurouni Kenshin Live-Action Film Might Already Be in Development

Keishi Otomo's Rurouni Kenshin trilogy has been well-received by fans of the anime series it's based on. The films are regarded as some of the best live-action anime films, and it looks like a fourth film is now in development.

The Japanese newspaper Daily Sports (via ANN)claims that a new film might already be in the works. The news came from their recent article about actress Emi Takei, who plays Kaoru Kamiya in the live-action adaptation.

The Japanese newspaper examined an on-going controversy about Takei in Japan. She recently announced that she's married to a member of the band Exile and is expecting their first child. However, the pregnancy and marriage break clauses in her contract with her talent agency. The penalties for Takei's breach of contract is currently being negotiated by Oscar Promotions, and it's likely that she'll still be a part of the fourth Rurouni Kenshin film.

Daily Sports says that Takei's role is "an important one that cannot be written out." In the manga, her character ends up marrying Himura Kenshin so that's why they can't write-off her role in the film. The film might be on-hold indefinitely until they figure out whether to recast Kaoru or have Takei on board after solving her current issues with her talent agency.
