New Resident Evil Movie Confirmed, 47 Meters Down Director To Helm Reboot

It looks like the zombie apocalypse is far from over. A new Resident Evil movie has just been confirmed by Johannes Roberts, who will helm the upcoming reboot.

Roberts is currently promoting his new film 47 Meters Down: Uncaged and he confirmed with ScreenRant that he is currently developing a new Resident Evil film. The Strangers: Prey at Night director revealed that although it was initially rumored to be a series, he is actually working on a reboot movie.

"We are in active development of that at the moment. I pitched them a take, and they really loved it. So, we are just gearing up on that as we speak, really. I'm in the office all the time there. So, yeah, it's great. It's gonna be super scary. It's super, super scary,".Roberts said.

So what can we expect in the Resident Evil reboot? Although Roberts didn't share too many details, it was implied that the new film will be completely separate from the Paul WS Anderson movies starring Milla Jovovich.

"It's just getting back to the roots of the game. I think, at the moment, I'm not really allowed to say much more than that. But it's gonna be a lot of fun," he said.

This should be interesting considering that the Resident Evil movies were a huge success although it focused on a character named Alice (Jovovich) who never appeared in the Capcom games. On the other hand, it could be refreshing to see a film that's closer to the game's storyline, if that's what Roberts is planning with the reboot.

The Resident Evil reboot has not yet been announced officially. In the meantime, Roberts' new film 47 Meters Down: Uncaged is currently screening in theaters.
