Before we get to preview the new Jace Planeswalker card that Wizards just revealed, let's talk about the new rule first.
In addition to the batch of 55 Ixalan cards Wizards of the Coast released today, and the new mechanicsMagic: The Gathering players will use in the next set, the company also announced a new Planeswalker rule starting with Ixalan.
According to the update, all Planeswalker cards will have the supertype legendary, and will be subject to the "legend rule". They're erasing the "planeswalker uniqueness rule", so that means everything true about legendary creatures will also be true for planeswalkers. If you control more than one legendary planeswalker with the same name, you will have to choose one and put the other into your graveyard. That means you can have both Jace, Unraveler of Secrets and Jace, Cunning Castaway under your control on the field at the same time since they don' have the same names.
So what's Jace, Cunning Castaway, you asked? Here it is:
First of all, the art looks way different compared to previous Jace cards. We're used to seeing Jace with a hood and in dark atmospheres but it's refreshing to see his new look in this card. It looks like this card is playable but not as broken as other Jace cards released before. It can protect itself with the Illusion tokens it produces and its ultimate is uniquely fun but it seems difficult to pull off.

There's so much flavor in this set. I can't wait to see what strategies people can come up with using these new mechanics.
Here's the synopsis for Ixalan:
For centuries, the untamed jungles of Ixalan have hidden a coveted secret: Orazca, the city of gold. But no secret can remain undiscovered, and no treasure can be taken uncontested. Unfurl your sails, saddle up a dinosaur, and battle your rivals as you embark on a journey to claim the plane's greatest fortune for yourself!
