New Mutants Could Release on Disney+ Instead of Theaters?

X-Men: Dark Phoenix may be the last X-film for the main franchise, but Fox's actual last mutant movie is The New Mutants which is set to come out this August. Admittedly, hype is an all-time low for the movie, and rumor has it that the film could possibly release on Disney's streaming service instead of coming out in theaters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The New Mutants is very likely to release after Marvel acquires Fox, and it's troubled production has others thinking that it will come out in the streaming service instead of a full theatrical release. Nothing has been confirmed so far, but a smaller release on the platform may ultimately be the better decision.

Like I said, hype for The New Mutants is at an all-time low, and with Marvel Studios planning to assimilate the Marvel Fox characters into their MCU, NM is left at an awkward position to end the Fox X-franchise despite it being a spinoff movie.

For now, it's said that reshoots are still an option for the film, but it's ultimately in the hands of director Josh Boone. While I appreciate that they decided to be a bit more experimental with the mutants, I have a very bad feeling that this film will flop if they ever release it in theaters. Then again, I could be completely wrong, but as it stands, The New Mutants is one of the least anticipated films of the year.

Will it end up on the streaming service instead? We'll just have to wait and see.

The New Mutants is set for a release on Aug. 2.
