BOOM! Studios has announced that they will release a new line of Magic: The Gathering comics, with the first series being published in April 2021. BOOM's first MTG comic series, called Magic, is an ongoing series by Jed JacKay and Ig Guara, and it will be set in the planes of Ravnica and Zendikar. The new series will kick of with attempted assassinations of three Guildmasters of Ravnica - Kaya, Ral Zarek, and Vraska. The three rivals will have to set aside their differences and travel to the world of Zendikar, building towards a confrontation with a "major" MTG character.

Jed MacKay talked about his excitement to share what they've been working on. Here's what he said in the press release: "Twenty-five years ago when I was digging through the commons and uncommons bin to build my first deck, I would never have thought that one day I would be handed the reins to the Magic: The Gathering comic, but here we are! I'm extremely psyched to be digging into the world of MAGIC and all that entails, and can't wait for all of you to see what we've been cooking up for you!"
This will be the first comic book project announced for BOOM! Studios as they took over the Magic: The Gathering comics license from IDW Publishing, which published various MTG comics miniseries between 2011 and 2018.

It looks like Magic will continue to expand its lore in other media other than its popular trading card game. Last year, Netflix announced that they're teaming up with Wizards of the Coast to release a new Magic: The Gathering animated series executive produced by the Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo.
Magic #1 will feature cover art by Matteo Scalera (Black Science), with multiple variant covers illustrated by Guara, InHyuk Lee (Miles Morales: Spider-Man) and Junggeun Yoon (Seven Secrets) featuring iconic Magic: The Gathering characters.
