New 'Kong: Skull Island' Featurette Revealed at the MTV Movie Awards

The MTV Movie Awards last Sunday featured a ton of new clips and trailers from upcoming movies. Included in the new videos is a first look at Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures‘ Kong: Skull Island.

MTV’s featurette contains some cast interviews as well as behind-the-scenes footage from the upcoming film, which involves heavy filming on location in Hawaii.

Included in the cast of Kong: Skull Island, who were also shown in the MTV sneak peek, are Jason Mitchell, Corey Hawkins (both seen in Straight Outta Compton), Tom Hiddleston (Thor: The Dark World), Oscar-winner Brie Larson (Room), Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, and Thomas Mann. As Hiddleston pointed out, the cast list has been filled with an all-star ensemble and from the looks of it, the film has blockbuster potential as well.

The Vogt-Roberts film takes place in the 1970s, whereas the 1933 King Kong and Peter Jackson’s 2005 King Kong have been set in the Great Depression-era.

The script of Kong: Skull Island has been co-written by Max Borenstein (Godzilla), Derek Connolly (Jurassic World), John Gatins (Flight), and Dan Gilory (Nightcrawler).

The story of Kong: Skull Island will pay tribute to the original King Kong lore, although the timeline will be different, Legendary promised.

Kong: Skull Island will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline.

Kong: Skull Island is slated for release on March 10, 2017. It will be followed by Godzilla 2 on June 8, 2018 and Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020.
