New God Of War Gameplay Trailer Offers Some Stunning Visuals

A lot of fans are very curious about this new take on God of War as it seeks to delve away from the Greek mythos and jump straight into the world of Norse mythology—with Kratos still the main character. E3 has been pumping out some pretty great sneak peeks, and we have a new one for God of War.

Here's the official description:

From Santa Monica Studio and creative director Cory Barlog comes a new beginning for one of gaming's most recognizable icons. Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamiliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.

Like all the previous games, the trailer promises some visually stunning (not to mention massive) creatures that Kratos has to battle alongside his son. The game will also be giving him a new set of weapons; exchanging the Blades of Athena for this new magical axe.

I don't know about you, but I think the inclusion of this Atreus character is a sort of set-up to Kratos passing on the God of War torch to his son. I'm betting this game will have Kratos die in the end, and have Atreus be the lead for future God of War games.

Just to get some perspective, Kratos in Greek means "power" and Atreus means "fearless"—pretty fitting name for someone who could potentially be the new center of the franchise.

The new God of War is set for a release early 2018.
