New Final Fantasy XIV Raid Pays Tribute to Final Fantasy VIII Summon

Everyone thought Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers would be another good expansion for the game but now, many are claiming that this is one of the best Final Fantasy games out there. It seems like the story has impressed fans with its characters and settings, making it more than an ordinary MMORPG (or a typical MMORPG, depending on how much you like this genre of gaming).

Well, in a twist a lot of fans didn't see coming, an upcoming Final Fantasy XIV raid will be paying tribute to a Guardian Force (GF) from Final Fantasy VIII. For those unfamiliar, GFs are the Final Fantasy VIII equivalents of summons so giant monsters/naked ladies. The overpowered Eden is the GF/summon players will be fighting in this raid so, if you're familiar with this GF, you know that this will be one hell of a battle.

Here are some details from PlayStation Blog:

Last week, the new raid finally dropped and players got to see firsthand what exactly is going on here. And yep — they went for it. I won't detail the story developments that put you up against the most ridiculous, overpowered Guardian Force from FF8, but it's a thing that happens and it's glorious. The moment you drop into the first fight of the new raid, a newly orchestrated arrangement of Final Fantasy VIII's excellent boss theme kicks in and you find yourself face-to-face with an entity called "Eden Prime." It's an engaging fight with plenty of fun mechanics and attacks for players to work around, but the coup de grace kicks in about halfway through the encounter: A nearly shot-for-shot recreation, in FFXIV's engine, of the "Eternal Breath" attack from Final Fantasy VIII.

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is now available on PS4 and PC.
