New Fable Game Reportedly Being Developed By Forza Horizon Team

Microsoft is reportedly bringing back the Fable series with a huge budget. Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon series, is reportedly developing the new Fable.

According to Eurogamer, Microsoft is making a "significant investment" in the role-playing game, but development is still in its "early days" so don't expect it to be released this year. The site reports that Playground is currently hiring staff, "with some 200 people set to work on the game." The developer has already hired talent from DICE, Ninja Theory, and Rockstar North.

Nearly a year ago, it was rumored that Playground is working on a non-racing game, and months later, the new game was reported to be an open-world RPG, which fits Eurogamer's description of the new Fable.

Fable co-creator Simon Carter talked about his "mixed feelings" about the reported revival of Fable, saying it's "great for the UK games industry, and very pleasing that Fable isn't dead." Carter added, "On the other hand it is a little curious to get rid of the team that is uniquely expert in making Fable, and then try and make Fable. Fable is a weird game, and a tough one to deconstruct for a new team. That said, the team in question is very talented, and I'm sure they'll do a fantastic job."

I only played the first Fable game, and although I enjoyed playing it, I thought the game was too easy. Hopefully, the new team will improve on making the game more challenging and more compelling.

Microsoft's move to revive Fable was reportedly influenced by Horizon Zero Dawn's success. The single-player RPG game has sold nearly 3.5 million copies since June 2017.
