While not bleak, things weren't looking too good when David Goyer had to drop directorial duties for the He-Man reboot called Masters of the Universe. Goyer is credited as writer and producer but fans have been wondering who would take the director's place. It turns out that we won't just get one new director but two.
Variety has confirmed that the Nee Brothers would be directing the He-Man reboot, taking over Goyer. The Nee Brothers rose to fame after their indie film Band of Robbers gained plenty of praise from critics, making the two a hot commodity. It will be interesting to see their take on the He-Man mythology.
Considering how the last Masters of the Universe film faired, there isn't that much pressure on making this film good. For those who haven't seen it, the 1987 film starring Dolph Lundgren was a horribly campy movie that used the basic fish-out-of-water setup to get these heroes in the real world.
The original cartoon was cheesy too but at least it has epic battles and interesting locations. No one likes the original from 1987, though some probably watch it ironically, and we can only hope that the Nee Brothers make this film a proper fantasy epic.
Masters of the Universe is set for a December 18, 2019 release.
