Netflix's Death Note Director To Helm Godzilla Vs. Kong

Kong: Skull Island was a hit movie, and it's building up for the eventual crossover smackdown between the titular ape king and Japan's original Kaiju. Legendary has reportedly found its director for the movie, and they've decided with Death Note helmer Adam Wingard.

Aside from the Death Note adaptation, Wingard is probably best known for his work on horror movie franchises like V/H/S and the 2016 Blair Witch movie. I don't want to feel like a stickler here, but I kind of wish that they hire someone who actually has experience directing big-budget movies instead of these smaller horror films. Hasn't anyone learned anything from Josh Trank and Fantastic Four?

For now, the next monster movie in the universe will be Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and it's possible that the title could be hinting at a showdown with the three-headed dragon King Ghidora. Godzilla vs. Kong is still set to come out in 2020, so there's a lot of time for a solo movie to come out between that time and now.

The movie is set to star Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown as well as Kyle Chandler and Vera Farmiga. The script will be penned by Pirates of the Caribbean's Terry Rossio, but will also have the involvement of writers Patrick McKay, JD Payne, Cat Vasko, and TS Nowlin.

Godzilla vs. Kong is set to come out May 22, 2020.
