South African- Canadian film director Neill Blomkamp has been busy looking for his next film project, releasing his various short films on YouTube and having viewers help him decided his next project for him. Now the filmmaker's expressing interest in making a sequel to Elysium.
Blomkamp recently went on an interview with Screen Rant to talk about his short film project Oats Studios and the director was asked whether his 2013 science fiction film Elysium would have done even better if he had used the Oats Studios method on the movie. The filmmaker not only agrees that it would have benefited from the approach, but he also seems to want to return to Elysium's universe and make another film.
"Elysium is more something I feel like I could have done better. I think that if you were to take something like Elysium and play with it inside a setting like this you probably would hone it – you would end up, I think, with something well thought through and that has all of the thematic elements that I wanted. I still love the set up to Elysium. The idea of the separation of class warfare presented with this space ring is incredibly appealing to me and I would love to go back and make another movie in the world of Elysium because it's compelling. I just think I can do a better job in setting up what the themes are more clearly and what the character's motivations are. I can do it better, I think."
Blomkamp must have thought a lot of ideas he wants to add to Elysium and it seems like a spinoff or sequel to the 2013 science fiction movie might now be in the list for Blomkamp's next project. Let's wait and see what happens next.
