Mortal Kombat Movie First Look Images Tease Epic Sub-Zero vs Scorpion Showdown

It has been a long wait but we finally have our first look at the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat movie. The first images from the upcoming film tease at dynamic action sequences and even an epic showdown between Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

The first photos from the Mortal Kombat movie were dropped by Entertainment Weekly along with a lengthy write-up about the film. Although it's thrilling to see all the characters for the first time, the one image that stands out is the fight between Hanzo Hasashi and Bi-Han, aka Scorpion and Sub-Zero played by Hiroyuki Sanada and Joe Taslim, respectively.

It's interesting to note that neither character is in their modern costume. That's because this particular shot takes place in the past and is part of the 10-minute opening sequence set in feudal Japan. It covers the lore from the original Mortal Kombat game and depicts the blood feud between the two characters' clans.

Director Simon McQuoid claims that the story of Hanzo and Bi-Han "needed to be told within the fight."

"There are some great camera moves to give it a bit of dynamism, that make it really enjoyable. We needed it to be really elemental and really brutal. It's not a shiny film… I wanted the dirt and the grime to come through," he said.
