Mortal Kombat 2021 is the latest adaptation of the NetherRealm game series of the same name. It serves as a reboot of the movie franchise that started back in 1995 and there is little doubt that Warner Bros. is planning to build a new film series.

There is little doubt that Mortal Kombat 2021 teased on a possible sequel. After all, the film concluded with the warriors of Earthrealm being victorious. Lord Raiden then declared that he is creating a new list of warriors who can help Cole Young, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, and Jax Briggs in the next tournament.

What Happens in Mortal Kombat 2?

At the end of the movie, Cole confirms that he is retiring from cage fighting and is heading for Los Angeles. But he's not going to Hollywood to be a movie star. Instead, Cole has been tasked to recruit the one and only Johnny Cage.

There is little doubt that fans were disappointed when Johnny didn't show up in Mortal Kombat. However, the film did confirm that the original video game character could finally show up in the sequel.

Who Is Returning in Mortal Kombat 2?

It's probably safe to say that the warriors of Earthrealm will be back in the sequel. However, it looks like they will be going up against a familiar face. It was previously reported that Sub-Zero actor Joe Taslim has signed on to do four new Mortal Kombat movies. With that in mind, it looks like the villain will be resurrected soon.

Which New Characters Will Appear in Mortal Kombat 2?

Mortal Kombat only featured a few characters from the video game and introduced a completely new character who was connected to Scorpion. With that in mind, the sequel is the perfect opportunity to bring in more characters, as confirmed by Josh Lawson in an exclusive interview with Epicstream.

"There's so many characters we haven't met yet, there's so many more storylines we can explore with the characters we made in this film, and there's so many more worlds to go to," the Kano actor said.

For now, it is important to point out that Warner Bros. has not yet made an official announcement about the Mortal Kombat sequel. Nevertheless, we're keeping our fingers crossed and hoping it will be confirmed in the next few weeks.

Mortal Kombat is currently screening in selected theaters worldwide. It is also available on HBO Max.
