Michael Rooker Had No Idea His Mary Poppins Line Would Become So Popular

As expected, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was another big hit for Marvel Studios, and probably one of the most memorable lines to ever come out of the movie was Yondu's "I'm Mary Poppins y'all" toward the end. As it turns out, Yondu actor Michael Rooker had no idea the line was going to be such a big hit, and he says you never can tell.

Talking to ComicBook at SDCC, Rooker explains:

"You don't know which line it's going to be, honestly… You just do the movie and all the sudden, you know it when it happens. But you don't know it reading the script… Because you get the same reaction. You've got about 100, like 55 people, sometimes more crew people, other actors, director, producers, all the people that end up actually making the movie. I'm just a tiny little piece of it. And so when they react to something you say, and you're kind of like ‘yeah, we nailed that.'"

After the movie came out, the internet was flooded with dozens of memes with Yondu as Mary Poppins. You can even say that Disney's actual Mary Poppins reboot has sparked some interest thanks to Yondu, and some fans have been wanting to see Rooker make a cameo in the upcoming movie.

Seeing that the character died in Vol. 2, there's probably no more chance we'll get to see Rooker return as Yondu for GOTG Vol. 3; unless, of course, we're going to get some flashbacks from Peter Quill or Sylvester Stallone's new group of Ravagers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes to Blu-Ray and DVD on Aug. 22.
