Michael Bay Still Coy About Transformers’ Future

To say that Transformers has become a Michael Bay franchise may seem like an understatement. It has exceeded the trilogy stage and is currently enjoying its fifth movie in a row.

Even though the future of the franchise is far from definite or even over, Bay still seems bent on being coy with what he plans for the franchise's future. In an interview with Fandango, Bay revealed what brought him back to do a fifth one.

According to the director, this was supposed to be his last in the franchise. But thanks to having a writer's room this time, one which he had asked for two years ago, they were able to gather 12 writers to create a universe that the stories could go into, hence the fifth installment.

This also explains why there is a lot more mythology in Transformers: The Last Knight, allowing the story to go deeper into the details and the story. What's more, it offered better heroines, which could be a grand break considering where Megan Fox took it during the first two movies.

So, despite all that, should we expect another one soon enough? Bay answers:

"If you watch it closely, there are a lot of ways that this movie can go from here. So it's basically like a launching board for wherever the series will continue."

Again, that's still pretty coy. If Transformers was just really getting into its mythology with this movie, that means it leaves a lot of paths opened for exploration through future movies. For now, I'm looking forward to the mythology that Bay mentioned.

Transformers: The Last Knight will be out in theaters on June 21.
