Well, it's official. After months of speculation, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been confirmed to be joining Marvel Studios' upcoming Wonder Man series as the titular character. The star of Aquaman and The Matrix Resurrections will be playing Simon Williams although we're still not sure which iteration of the West Coast Avengers member it will be.
Now, this may come as a surprise to some of you but Marvel has long cast its Wonder Man in Nathan Fillion, who was supposedly set to make his debut in the second Guardians of the Galaxy film. However, the studio ultimately scrapped the scene he filmed and up to now, it hasn't seen the light of day although director James Gunn has previously confirmed his supposed inclusion in the sequel.
On Twitter, fans questioned the studio's decision to cast someone else when Gunn himself already handpicked Fillion several years back. And before you jump to the conclusion that it had something to do with Williams being racially bent, it doesn't have anything to do with that. Do you think Kevin Feige and company should've kept the 51-year-old star? Check out some of the reactions below:

Well, technically speaking, Fillion's Simon Williams isn't canonically part of the MCU since we never saw him appear in GOTG Vol. 2. Still, the frustration within the fandom is quite understandable because the actor would have been great for the part. There's no doubt though that Yahya will do the role justice.
Key details about Marvel Studios' Wonder Man series remain under wraps.
