Maz Kanata is one of the new characters that Star Wars: The Force Awakens brought to us. She's also one of the most intriguing. However, a new theory is shedding more light into the mysterious character.

According to Movie Pilot, the new Maz Kanata theory is suggesting that the 1000-year-old smuggler who somehow got hold of the Skywalker lightsaber is a Jawa. If this is true, then we've already seen her in The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, A New Hope and Return of the Jedi.

So far, apart from what I've mentioned above, what's known about Maz is that she's Force-sensitive and that she has a way of telling people's desires through their eyes. Also, from what was shown in The Force Awakens, Maz saw how the Dark Side's inclinations for a long time, even the secretive group of the Sith.

If Maz Kanata is indeed a Jawa, it could explain her wisdom and knowledge of the Force, particularly Jedis, Siths, and even the Skywalker bloodline.

How could Maz be a Jawa?

According to Wookiepedia.com, Maz is approximately 1.24 meters or 4 feet tall. By comparison, a Jawa's average height is around 1 meter or 3 feet.

As for appearance, not much is known about what they really look like since they pretty much stay hidden beneath their robes and hoods. Maz knows a lot but has managed to stay under the radar for so long. She could have done this by wearing a Jawa's outfit.

Jawas also have glowing yellow eyes. Maz's obsession of eyes could have come from the time when she lived with Jawas since they communicated through eyes and gestures. Maz's eyes were hazel in The Force Awakens, but this could be either from her goggles if all Jawas wore goggles.

For now, these are all just theories. There's no concrete proof that Maz Kanata is a Jawa, but because it's Star Wars, anything is possible.

Personally, I believe she fits the bill. She does have a Jawa's height and features.

One thing's for sure, we can't know anything until some other theory pops up or until Star Wars Episode 8 comes out.
