Maul Voice Actor Gives Insight On The Matter Of The Chosen One

Though the battle of revenge between Maul and Obi-Wan in Star Wars Rebels is long done and over with, fans still continue to discuss the episode not only because it closes the book on one of the Star Wars's most popular villains, but the episode also clarifies the whole matter regarding the franchise's "chosen one."

Though the prequel trilogy led fans to believe that Anakin was the one chosen to bring balance to the Force, the conversation Maul has with Obi-Wan as he lays defeated in Twin Suns reveals that the Chosen One is not Anikin, but his son Luke.

Now, in an interview on the Full of Sith podcast, Maul's voice actor Sam Witwer gives his interpretation on the Chosen One dialogue in last week's episode of Rebels.

"…There was a lot of things that Dave [Filoni] did that made it a lighter touch and let people really kind of debate what they thought everything meant. I mean, one of the things that I think is interesting is people have debated for a long time ‘is the Chosen One Anakin Skywalker, or is it Luke Skywalker?'"

"but if you watch the Mortis episodes [in The Clone Wars] it would certainly point to it being Anakin Skywalker, but what's cool is A: maybe Obi-Wan is right. Maybe Luke is the Chosen One. B: Maybe they're both the Chosen One, as the ‘Twin Suns', right? Anakin and Luke. Or, C: Obi-Wan's wrong. He can't imagine that it's Anakin after what he's been through. He just knows that he has to protect the kid. Obi-Wan certainly doesn't know how it's all going to play out yet."

Witwer's interpretation doesn't give fans a very solid answer on whether Luke is actually the chosen one however it is pretty understandable that the voice-actor believes that there's a chance that Obi-Wan cold be wrong. After all, the episode comes right before the events of the original trilogy and the old Jedi master couldn't possibly see with absolute certainty how everything is going to turn out just yet.

We'll probably learn more about the Chosen One when The Last Jedi hits theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
