Marvel's Superman Analogue The Sentry Gets 'Fresh Start' Ongoing

After his shocking return in Donny Cates' Doctor Strange run, The Sentry will be getting a new ongoing series from acclaimed writer Jeff Lemire and artist Kim Jacinto as part of Marvel's Fresh Start initiative. The series will spin out from his most recent return in the aforementioned Doctor Strange comic and will have the character reintegrated into the modern Marvel universe after years of being gone.

Revealed by ComicBook.com, Lemire promised that the comic will continue to deal with the hero's internal struggle with his dark side, The Void, whilst not retreading on previously told stories. Lemire admitted to being a fan of the character's original mini-series from Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee, so it will be interesting to see the writer's take on the Marvel hero.

"I absolutely loved the original Sentry series by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee when it first came out, so I jumped at the chance to write the character. The Sentry has a lot of emotional depth and a lot for me to dig into in terms of the psychology of the character. He is immensely powerful and has the potential to be one of the greatest and most important heroes in the Marvel Universe, but he is constantly undermined by his own dark side and his own self-doubt."

Lemire's no stranger to writing characters with mental health issues, previously writing a beloved Moon Knight run for Marvel. The writer was quick to point out that both characters have very different issues and this won't read like a do-over of his Moon Knight run. Kim Jacinto has also promised to keep Sentry's classic costume, whilst also promising a few new tricks up his sleeve.
