Marvel's Black Widow Movie is Reportedly in Development

Marvel Studios is reportedly developing a standalone Black Widow film, with a script written by Jac Schaeffer.

According to Variety, sources are saying that the project is still in early development stage "as the film has no greenlight, but naming a writer is the closest the studio has come to moving forward on a standalone pic." Variety also reported that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige met with several potential candidates to pen the script before hiring Schaeffer. Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson reportedly met with Marvel execs to discuss what they wanted in the script.

Schaffer is best known for her 2009 sci-fi comedy feature film, TiMER. She also wrote Nasty Women and Mr. Stache. Her script for The Shower recently broke out on the Black List. It tells a comedic story of an alien invasion during a baby shower. Anne Hathaway will star in and produce the film.

Scarlett Johansson made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Black Widow in Iron Man 2. Since then, she appeared in Avengers and Captain America films. Her next appearance will be in Avengers: Infinity War.

It's great to know that Marvel Studios will have another female-centric superhero film in the works. Jennifer Lawrence's upcoming film Red Sparrow probably inspired them to move forward with a standalone Black Widow film. Their stories are pretty similar, and many fans were quick to find the resemblance between the two characters.

Avengers; Infinity War is set to release in theaters on May 4, 2018.
