Marvel Teases Jane Foster's Death In The Mighty Thor #705

With a story called The Death of the Mighty Thor, it was easy to assume that current Mjolnir wielder Jane Foster wouldn't be long for this world. Jane was infected by cancer sometime during Jason Aaron's acclaimed Thor run and has been battling it for some time, even when Mjolnir deemed her worthy of wielding the power of a Goddess. However, Jane was quick to point out that turning into Thor would actually make her sickness worse and that all seems to be coming to a head with The Mighty Thor #705.

Marvel has promised that Jane will make the "ultimate heroic sacrifice" in this issue, the finale to The Death of the Mighty Thor, which started in issue #700. Preview issues of issue #705 have shown Jane looking gravely ill, with Doctor Strange, Falcon, and other heroes taking care of her. Somehow, she can also see the Mangog taking on Odinson, the former Thor, presumably in Asgard.

It seems like Jane is finally succumbing to her cancer and could be the one responsible for deeming Odinson worthy of the Thor name again. Perhaps Mjolnir will fly to Odinson in his time of need, though that hasn't been cleared up. We do know that Odinson will be Thor again and will have a gold hammer, though it's not clear if that is Mjolnir. Fans will have to continue reading Aaron's run of The Mighty Thor to come out.
