[THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING]
The end of Spider-Man: Homecoming gave us a reveal of a more high-tech Spider-Man suit that was the closest thing we got to the Iron Spider from the Civil War comics, and the suit will be making a return in Avengers: Infinity War. With Spider-Man at the end of its run in the box office, Marvel has released an official look of the suit in HD. Check it out:
Though I would have personally preferred if the suit stuck a lot closer to the original comic design, you can still see traces of it in the costume like the bigger spider emblem and the yellow highlights. At best, it looks like a mesh of the classic Spidey suit and an Iron Man suit. There's some armor plating on the shoulders, and the eyes are still the same mechanical ones.
Plus, here's what Homecoming VFX supervisor Dominik Zimmerle had to say about the suit:
"The new Spider-Man suit was actually designed for one of the next installments of the MCU and models and textures were done by Framestore… The idea was to have a clean, high tech, presentation Vault for the new suit. It should appear distinctively "Stark" originated. Based on the feedback from the Studio we refined the interior structure and modeled, textured and look deved the Vault."
Spider-Man has actually had a bunch of costume changes in the comics, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them come to life onscreen. You think the black parts of the high-tech suit are a tease to a symbiote black suit? Everyone would lose their minds if that happened in Infinity War.
Spider-Man returns in Avengers: Infinity War which hits theaters May 4, 2018.
