Five of Marvel's most talented artists will be coming together for what will be its biggest event in 2017. Dubbed as the Marvel Monsters Unleashed, the project will see Cullen Bunn on the writer's chair, while artists Adam Kubert, Greg Land, Salvador Larroca, Steve McNiven, and Leinil Yu will wield some kickass drawings of destruction.
Marvel revealed that the project will see some colossal creatures facing head-on against Iron Man, Spider-Man, the Avengers, X-Men, and basically every other hero that Marvel can use in its side of the arena.
In an interview, Bunn revealed that this will be a giant monster story for Marvel, and one that he feels is up his alley in terms of penning the story. It seems that during the conception of the project, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso had Cullen's Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe in mind in terms of humor and mayhem level, one that he hopes will be delivered in Marvel Monsters Unleashed.
As a sizable monsters story, this will call on not only al of Marvel's rosters, but also challenge their abilities to set aside differences in order to save the Earth.
"What you have is the arrival of mammoth-sized monsters in the Marvel Universe, creating mayhem all around them. They arrive everywhere so it's an all-in event. Avengers, X-Men, Champions, Inhumans, Deadpool, Spider-Man and friends, Power Man and Iron Fist; everyone has to get past whatever gripes they might have currently in the Marvel Universe and team up against this threat that's global."
What's interesting is that, even though it will tap into the entire Marvel universe, the creators don't seem to be planning to prolong the project. Alonso has confirmed that Marvel Monsters Unleashed will happen in the span of five issues shipped bi-weekly from January.
Each issue is 30 pages long, but we can expect a lot of two-page spreads, and page-splashes to show off all the action. There may even be a nice twist at the end, sort of the help-save-the-day kind of cavalry, so you know it's going to be big.
As far as the story goes, Marvel Monsters Unleashed may be one way of bringing back some monsters into the mix, which haven't been seen in a long time. And since it's going to take a lot of the Marvel heroes to battle, each hero will surely not forget this one big event anytime soon.
Marvel Monsters Unleashed will be out on January 2017.
