Casting in movies will always be a tricky thing. Casting for superheroes, especially in the case of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, may be trickier.

Not only is the company working with a material that has a rich history with its comic book fan base, but it's also faced with the issue of diversify its roles to ensure that it keeps up with the times. And from the looks of it, Marvel president Kevin Feige is taking the company to that direction with its future films.

Speaking to Vulture, Feige revealed that the company is listening to criticisms about race diversity. It has already started with Doctor Strange as in the case of Mordo, but Feige promised that there will be more to come in future films.

"I think that in the movies we've already made, and certainly in the movies that are coming up, it will be as inclusive a group of characters as one could want. For us, it's important that we don't feel like a completely white, European cast."

Of course, that's not to say that the suitability of the role will not be considered. If anything, Feige revealed that Marvel will always ensure that the casting is suited for the role.

And sometimes, even when fan backlash regarding "race-bending" in some areas, Feige also stood solid in pointing out that comics may have been drawn in an era wherein culture is more accustomed to having white character.

What Feige and Marvel seem to push forward in terms of the MCU is an image of what the world could be defined in the current culture. One particular movie that he focuses on is the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, where the diversity featured in the high school cast surrounding Peter Parker is dominantly diverse.

"Our filmmaker came in and had pictures of real high schools, and they are as diverse as you could imagine. That was something important to us, to set it apart from other Spidey films that have bene made—to carve that niche—and to have it represent the world today. It's definitely important to us that these movies reflect the world."

So even though Doctor Strange may have received quite the bit of criticism when it comes to the gender- and race-bent Ancient One, it seems that Marvel's progressive diversity is a promise that its head boss is looking to apply to future films.
