Marvel is Relaunching Ghost Rider

Marvel is launching a new Ghost Rider title which coincides with the character's appearance in the TV Series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, TV Guide reports. The series will star the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider. Ghost Rider's had a title before, obviously, but that's not been the case for about year, so it's a big coincidence that the character's returning as a solo star at the same time as his TV debut, but Marve's Editor-in-Chief Alex Alonso says it is indeed a coincidence. He does note Marvel Execs were given a "head's-up" about the Agents appearance and are very excited.

But it is the schedule of the series writer, Felipe Smith, the co-creator of the character, that dictated the series launch date more than anything. "We were waiting for Felipe's schedule more than anything. I would have loved to have launched it sooner, but he has a prosperous career in animation, we needed the time to carve it up and do it right, Alonso said.

In addition to Smith, who will be drawing the series covers as well, the team behind the series includes Danilo Beyruth, who will be drawing the interior of the comic. The other creator of the Robbie Reyes character, Tradd Moore, will do a backup story for the comic's first issue.

Smith talked a bit about Robbie Reyes, a mechanic living in Los Angeles who was one day posessed by the evil spirit of Eli Morrow. The possession granted him the power to turn any vehicle he touches into a fiery death machine. Smith notes that ""Robbie makes the choice to do good things, because it's the spirit who compels him to kill." Previous Ghost Riders were typically posessed by a demon and feel their lives were ruined by this, but Robbie feels empowered by the spirit, since his life was pretty difficult already before it came along.

The new comic will include a variety of guest stars, including Amadeus Cho's Hulk and Laura Kinney's Wolverine. Smith also hopes to have Kamala Khan's Ms. Marvel show up at some point. He teases Reye's dynamic with Laura Kinneys saying they will have a "rapport, a kinship" and "Having characters who are the same age, but from different backgrounds is always interesting. More likely than not, there's going to be a friction."

The new Ghost Rider comic is launching in November.

It's nice to see Ghost Rider getting a title again and his interaction with these other heroes is bound to be interesting. Are you excited for Ghost Rider? Will you be checking it out?
