Marvel Goes Old School With ‘Legacy’ Ads

Despite feeling like a sales gimmick, there is plenty of excitement for the upcoming Marvel Legacy rebranding. Seeing certain comics go back to their old numbering is pretty neat, and some of the homage covers are drawn really well. It seems like the company really wants fans to feel the nostalgia, as recent Marvel comics have had shown some very familiar ads.

Bleeding Cool has shown off some of these nostalgic ads, revealing some of the fun and witty annotations old Marvel comics were known for. Gwenpool even breaks the fourth wall in the ad for her comic, saying "Wow. Marvel's bringing back some of their old-style ads. And I get to be in one!" She also mentions "shilling for fruit pies" if her comic doesn't sell well, referring to the time Marvel Comics continuously advertised the yummy treat back in the day.

Another character who talks to the audience is Deadpool, who takes a shot at his ex-friend Cable, saying "My old pal Cable is gonna need more than a few C-Listers to stop me!" It's a neat way to hype Newer Mutants for Cable #150 and Deadpool Kills Cable in Despicable Deadpool #287.

Overall, it's a fun and cheeky way to hype up the upcoming Marvel Legacy rebranding. The opening one-shot, Marvel Legacy #1, hits comic stores this month, on September 27. Expect a big return that will supposedly shake up the Marvel universe.
