Marvel Games Has Its Own Grand Plan

If there's one thing that's been consistently admirable about Marvel Studios' rollout of movies, it would be the amount of thorough planning involved.

And the good thing about Marvel Entertainment handling the gaming arm is that it will follow the same kind of crucial planning to roll out the proper games with the proper developer and proper platforms. Speaking to GameSpot, Marvel Games' VP and executive producer Mike Jones revealed that it will have a particular direction in the way it tackles games:

"We absolutely have a roadmap. We have some incredible mobile, console, and VR games planned that I can't announce or talk about today. We are curating our portfolio and trying to find the best match for character, partner, genre, platform, and trying not to just see who wants a license to make a game. We're actually very active in planning what are the right experiences for the right franchises for the right platforms, as well as finding the right partners who can provide the best of that."

Jones compares this method to how Marvel Studios ensures that a director matches the proper character or franchise. More than compatibility, however, this matchmaking is also based on the passion of the teams that will be working on the games.

In fact, Marvel Entertainment has also started to consider smaller studios, starting with Insomniac Games. They are just starting with bigger studios to get them up and running while ensuring that the next step considers not only indie studios, but also other branches in gaming, like mobile and VR.

That said, we definitely have a lot to look forward to with Marvel Entertainment, starting with Spider-Man for the PS4 come next year.
